Decks, Fences & Repairs
Decks, Fences & Home Repairs in Salisbury, MD
Outdoor wood takes the worst of the weather here. Boards cup, fasteners back out, railings loosen, and a gate stops latching. Catching those things early is far cheaper than replacing a whole structure later.
Decks, fences and general home repairs are the broadest of the six service groups Silva Handyman Contractor works in. The right first step is usually a short description and a few photos, so we can tell you honestly whether the job is a fit and what it involves.
What this includes
- Deck board replacementRotted or split boards and stair treads cut out and replaced, with the rest of the deck checked for soft spots.
- Railings and stairsLoose posts, wobbly balusters and handrails re-secured or replaced so the guard is solid again.
- Fence sections, posts and gatesDamaged panels and leaning posts repaired, and gates rehung so they swing and latch correctly.
- Cleaning, sealing and stainingDecks and fences cleaned and prepared, then sealed or stained to slow the next round of weathering.
- Rot and trim repairSoft exterior trim, fascia edges and door surrounds replaced with material suited to the exposure.
- The running repair listLoose railings, sticking drawers, cracked caulk, broken hardware, sagging shelves and the small jobs that keep getting postponed.
Scope note
Fence and deck work is listed broadly in the owner's service description. Send photos and a description and we will confirm exactly which repairs and installations we can take on rather than guessing at a scope.

What to send us
- A photo of the whole deck or fence line, plus close-ups of the problem areas.
- Rough dimensions of the area, or the length of fencing involved.
- How old the structure is, if you know, and when it was last sealed or stained.
- Whether any part of it feels soft underfoot or moves when you push on it.
- Your ZIP code and your list of smaller repairs, if you have one.
Questions we will ask
- Is the damage local, or is the structure itself losing strength?
- Are the footings and posts sound, or does the post need to come out?
- Is the existing material pressure-treated, cedar, composite or something else?
- Does anything need to match an existing profile, colour or board width?
- Is there a permit or HOA rule that applies to the change?
